My college textbooks for one term = $324
My laptop with constantly updated information from the internet = $800
No-brainer.

Why do we not, as a society, convert our textbooks to a digital format? I had no idea that everyone wants to throw out there back, to fall over on their bikes because they leaned slightly too far one way, and to slouch when they are in their thirties.

If you are like me in that you hate carrying textbooks everywhere, leave a comment. If you actually like lugging around bricks all day, then leave a comment telling me why.

I’ve heard most of the reasonable arguments. “Oh, I just can’t stand staring at a screen for any length of time.” or “It’s not natural to look at a screen that long, I’d rather look at a book.” Well, guess what? It’s not natural to sling 50 pounds or more of text on your back everywhere you go either. The world is advancing, and we are learning new things everyday. The amount of information changes, as does the existing information. It is constantly in flux. If you think that it is a good idea to spend large amounts of money, ink, and paper to print something off that could possibly become obsolete in a matter of years, you clearly haven’t thought things through.

Having a computer, or some other digital text to work with, costs far less in the long run. You buy one, and you have access to updated information constantly, and far more of it. Eventually, our technology will reach the point where digital text becomes the standard. We are slowly growing into it.

Get with the times, people.

This is not your average blog. Why? Because I said so.

How else do I stand out from the crowd, and get my face burnt into your memory (it might hurt) so that I am read? I’ll tell you how. All I need to do is make you believe that I care about you. How could I? I don’t know you (yet). In fairness, you know nothing about me either. So, as a first post, I’ll fill you in on some of the basics.

I have the mind of a writer, and I always will. Put a political, religious, or economic story in front of me; I become more picky than your dog on a potty break. To put it in perspective for you, when I’m not blogging here (or learning at college)I’m performing busts for the grammar police, and with so many criminals in this town; it can be hard to keep the streets clean…

I’m also a martial artist, but not the kind you might expect. I don’t care for MMA, but it is perfectly alright if you do. I practice martial arts for two specific purposes; physical stamina and increased emotional intelligence. The former is blunt and obvious, but the latter has a deeper meaning. Emotional intelligence is a wise application of feelings. A refusal to act upon quick, clumsy impulses in favor of precise, direct, and appropriate responses. You know what I mean.

Hopefully that quick dip into my life told you enough about me for now. From PCC Rock Creek, this has been quick blog from me, Alex Mason.
